Sunbeam House (Hubinger’s Hut)

Spanning three centuries, it was built as part of a meat works at Cardwell in 1895. It was converted to a bedroom annex for a private Cardwell home around 1903 and moved to its current location in 1924 as a rural house and stock and saddle shed by the pioneering Hubinger family. Sunbeam House is also widely known as the Hubinger’s Hut.

In 2011 cyclone Yasi destroyed the Sunbeam Hut. Funding from America, the charitable legacy of famed US actor Paul Newman has underwritten the rebirth of this historic hut.
